First Moebius and now this. On April 3 we lost Antonio Mingote to hepatic cancer. Master illustrator, journalist and member of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language, his inclination towards moderate conservative politics did not grant him prominence among his younger contemporaries. Yet he proved an indisputable influence to Spanish culture throughout his lifetime. To me, his unique, colorful, humorous and affectionate view of humanity will always symbolize a large part of the Spain I grew up in as well as that which preceded me. Here’s a small sample of his amazing body of work.
Enjoy.
